Manufacturing Engineer

 

Our client an international consumer goods manufacturer is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer for their largest facility in northern Kentucky.

 

Manufacturing Engineer

Reporting to the Director of Operational Strategies, this mandate will be to implement and improve the manufacturing equipment and processes required to manufacture a high-quality product in a repeatable cost-effective manner. The incumbent will be responsible for manufacturing optimization, new process development and new product launch. The right candidate is self motivated to achieve the highest level of results and is hands-on with a strong mechanical aptitude.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 
• Provide technical support for production and assembly processes in machinery CNC, welding, painting, and manual assembly. Identify bottlenecks in production lines and develop solutions to improve production rate. Conduct root cause analysis of production issues and develop permanent corrective actions. 
• Conduct technical research to identify process improvement opportunities. Develop and implement process improvements to improve safety, quality and efficiency of the manufacturing process. Determine the return on investment for any improvements and develop the business case to support the change. Manage capital expenditure projects including: the development of the project savings and payback; issuing the request for quote; comparison of the potential vendors; monitoring project timing and managing project start-up with the proper training and documentation. 
• Support new product development by working with R&D through prototype validation, design for manufacturing, and development of the assembly process. Manage the new product launch from prototype acceptance through to production launch and first off approval. 
• Drive process improvements through use of flow charts, FMEAs, control plans, and value stream mapping. 
• Complete cycle time studies to balance work flow and optimize efficiency. 
• Read and interpret engineering drawings with the ability to accurately measure product and analyze drawings and engineering models for tolerance stack ups. 
• Evaluate new product designs for necessary tooling requirements. Determine the best way to design tooling or fixtures and work with designer to create effective designs. 
• Interface with multiple functions within the company and with people of all levels of management/technical ability. 
• Lead teams or partner with the manufacturing team leaders and supervisors to improve the manufacturing processes. 
• Mentor process specialists and junior level manufacturing engineers 

Education and Experience: 
• Must have a University Degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering 
• Must have a minimum of 5 - 7 years' related manufacturing experience 
• Professional Engineering designation preferred, PE eligibility required 
• Very strong computer skills; MS Office, AutoCAD, Solid Work (CAD modeling experience with Solid Works) 
Lean manufacturing training and experience is preferred
